On Saturday, June 8, AsiaTown held our first Children’s Day celebration with over 100 children and their family members in attendance. International Children’s Day is on June 1st and is celebrated in many countries around the world. We have heard from some parents and families that they often look forward to Children’s Day, but in Cleveland, they did not see anyone celebrating it. This year, we helped several moms in the neighborhood organize a celebration with the help of many volunteers.
The event included several stations, including homemade food brought by resident home bakers that represented many regions in China, pinwheel crafting from Art Block, a secondhand toy swap, pinyin learning materials, an activity corner, and bicycle education and helmet raffles from Bike Cleveland. Families brought toys and games to share, like cornhole, pinball, and foosball.
The kids in our community had a blast! They met new friends, practiced sharing and being social, and playing together. They played hard and creatively. Many thanks to the neighborhood organizers, volunteers, and the kids who came to play! Until next time – happy Children’s Day!
